It’s officially National Apprenticeship Week (NAW2022) and we are really excited to be promoting the benefits of apprenticeships for learners and employers. Throughout the week we will be sharing stories and feedback from our apprentice’s and employers along with hints & tips for Parents, Carers & Teachers.
National Apprenticeship Week 2022 will take place from 7 to 13 February 2022. It provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate apprenticeships and bring the whole apprenticeship community together. The Week will shine a light on the positive differences that apprenticeships can make to individuals, employers and to the wider economy
Calling all Parents and Carers
As a parent, you want your child to get the best possible start in their career. There are many options available to young people after they leave school, and in this guide, we outline information and benefits about apprenticeships as a key route into a successful career. If you’re a parent, guardian, carer or teacher of someone, you can help them find a career path that’s right for them. Modern apprenticeships are designed by employers so the training reflects the skills, knowledge and behaviours an apprentice will need for a particular occupation. Apprenticeship training is of a high standard and only training providers who are on the register of apprenticeship training providers can deliver the training. Working as an apprentice means you earn while you learn. An apprentice works in a real job and spends at least 20% of their working hours training. So they gain the skills needed for their chosen occupation.

The UK Government has created this interactive activity pack for you to use with your students to support them in exploring what apprenticeships are, the types of apprenticeships available and the benefits.
As part of #NAW2022, we asked the employers we work with to provide feedback on apprenticeships and how they benefit their business overall. We have had some great responses which we want to share with you.
Humphries Kirk have adopted a variety of apprenticeships to provide progression opportunities within the Legal sector, and also to develop our current staff within Business Administration, Legal Administration, Finance, Paralegal and Operational Management apprenticeships. We support our Apprentices to develop their knowledge and skills within the job role they are in, linking closely to their apprentice programme. The apprenticeships have defined our entry points to the legal profession and provided clear pathways for our teams’ development. We have benefited from the individuals who have invested their time and energy into their apprenticeships, who are not only engaged on the programme but also keen to learn and take on the next development opportunity. We highly recommend apprenticeships to other employers and individuals looking to further develop their careers. We have seen our apprentices complete their training and either move onto another level apprenticeship in line with their career goals, or have been promoted within their department.

Clarion Housing Group strive to have apprenticeships at the heart of our business. We are proud to have recruited apprentices into almost all our departments from electrical to HR and finance to housing teams. We also ensure we offer a variety of opportunities from level 2 through to level 7. Our Clarion FastTrack programme is a pre-employment programme that helps candidates to apply for our apprenticeships and ensures the on-boarding process works. We also have a national accredited mentoring programme that supports all of our apprentices. Currently, 92% of our apprentices progress into permanent roles at Clarion and continue their upward progression through the business.

I have gained so much knowledge doing the apprenticeship and the research I had to do really helped me to gain a lot of new skills. It gave me lots of new ideas which I got to put into practice. Since completing my Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification I have been promoted to a home manager. I am just starting my Level 5 which I am very excited about.

Sarah has been a huge help throughout the 9 months I had her as my trainer. She has given me all of the tools I needed to succeed, as well as always being available to answer any questions I had. Nothing was too much trouble.

Although a very detailed course, I feel I have had the support from my Primary Training Advisor (John O’Callaghan) from Day 1 of the course. He has guided me through some tricky understanding of the tasks and explained them to me in simple terms when the question has been written in a complex manner. John even went above and beyond, especially when he came to visit me in my place of work which boosted my confidence even more, as even during these unprecedented times, the physical interaction was invaluable to me as I may be a little older than some of the other individuals taking these course.
