Job Description:

The role as Kitchen Assistant Apprentice
 You will learn how to:

  • Under the supervision of the Cook and the Home Manager, assist in identifying items to be ordered to ensure enough levels of supplies for catering operation from specified suppliers, using Ashmere Derbyshire procedures
  • Operate an efficient stock control system
  • Ensure equipment supplied is used with care, in accordance with suppliers’ instructions and training
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any faults immediately. Do not use any machine if it is dangerous
  • Prepare food items under the guidance of the cook – including special diets catering for such conditions as dysphagia, malnutrition, etc
  • Support the delivery and serving of food, if required
  • Understand the specific diets identified as required by Service Users, and share any dietary concerns with the cook
  • Be responsible for understanding Health and Safety requirements
  • Be clean, hygienic and well presented at all times
  • Any incidents or accidents to be reported to the chef, and appropriately recorded and actioned
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of those individuals they support
  • Strictly follow food hygiene policies and procedures, including infection prevention and control and EHO requirements

Working with others

  • Assist in the induction of new starters in accordance with Ashmere Derbyshire policy
  • Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the service
  • Work with the cook and care team in a positive way, and be proactive in identifying duties that need to be completed
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with care staff to understand the dietary needs of people that use the service
  • Be polite and respectful in any communication with staff, Service Users or external visitors

Leading by example

  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • When interacting with Service Users be person-centred, and promote respect and dignity

Skills and Requirements:

Desired Skills

  • A passion for hospitality and reliability is required in this role. 

Required Qualifications

Maths and English GCSE grade 3/D and above or equivalent.

Future Prospects

A full-time position is available on completion of the apprenticeship.

Training to be delivered

  • Hospitality team member Level 2
  • Company Induction and all aspects of safety within a fully functioning Kitchen
  • Functional Skills maths and English level 2 (if GCSE A-C if not already achieved)

The group want to build a team that provides a dining experience of quality fresh cooked food for the residents. They want to aid in the development of new cooks and chefs and by utilizing their current crop of qualified cooks and chefs to bring in new apprentices that want to learn in a different cooking environment but still gain the essential skill set to progress on to a career in catering.
