Job Description:

With the appropriate on the job training, supervision and guidance, provide efficient and effective administrative support to the Payroll team.

The role will provide a fantastic opportunity to work alongside experienced members of staff, develop payroll and payments knowledge that will complement professional development and play an important part in supporting the delivery of high-quality Payroll services.

The role:

The Rural Client Finance team provide bookkeeping, payroll and accounting services to clients’ of Strutt & Parker. We are looking for a payroll apprentice who will also be responsible for some team administration tasks and will work directly with our payroll manager.

This position will be based at our Chelmsford office working Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm. This is a level 3 apprenticeship role and full training will be given by the Payroll Manager, 20% of your time will be committed to non-work-related training.

The apprenticeship scheme will be for a fixed 24-month period.

Key deliverables:

The purpose of the role is to be trained in the following:

  • Processing of client payrolls fortnightly/monthly
  • Operating the payroll package (Brightpay)
  • Processing starters and leavers and other relevant HMRC forms
  • Online filing to HMRC
  • Processing BACS payment of wages
  • Processing and payment of pension contributions
  • Distribution of payslips

Undertaking any other tasks that may be required to ensure the efficient running of the payroll service. In addition, the following administration tasks are assigned to the role:

  • Setup and maintenance of client records
  •  Setup and maintenance of team task allocations
  • Client invoicing, and monthly income reconciliation
  • Daily banking

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with face-to-face and telephone enquiries in a courteous and patient manner, providing a high level of customer care

  • Strong IT skills including capability in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Required Qualifications

GCSE English minimum grade B / 6 or equivalent.

Future Prospects

Leading to full-time role upon completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will have the opportunity to apply for roles within the organisation which are available.
