Level 4 Apprenticeships

Are you looking to advance your career? If so, enrolling in a Level 4 Apprenticeship program could be the ideal choice for you. These programs are equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree or a Higher National Certificate (HNC), and provide a great alternative to traditional education. We have put together a comprehensive guide to our Level 4 Apprenticeships, discussing their benefits for both learners and employers.

Level 4 Apprenticeships: A Guide to Advancing Your Career with Smart

Level 4 Apprenticeships present an exciting opportunity for both independent learners and employers. These apprenticeships, also called Higher Apprenticeships, are equivalent to the initial year of an undergraduate degree or a Higher National Certificate (HNC). They provide a unique chance to combine work with learning, achieve higher-level qualifications, and gain valuable real-world experience. Our Level 4 Apprenticeships are designed in collaboration with employers. Whether you’re a learner looking to advance your career or an employer who wants to upskill their team, our Higher Apprenticeships can unlock new possibilities for you.

If you’re considering enrolling your staff or embarking on this journey independently, Level 4 Apprenticeships can open doors to fresh career possibilities. Get in touch with our team for guidance and support to get started.

What Are Level 4 Apprenticeships?

Higher Apprenticeships are the next step after Level 3 (Advanced Apprenticeships). Level 4 Apprenticeships allow you to gain more advanced qualifications while working by building your skills and earning while you learn. You’ll work full-time for an employer on-site, in an office, or remotely while committing 20% of your time to studying. This may involve a mix of on-the-job training and online learning. Our qualifications are tailored to the industry and job roles, ensuring you gain all the necessary knowledge and skills to advance in your career.

The duration of Level 4 Apprenticeships depends on the industry and the employer and can range from one to five years. Although every apprenticeship is unique, you will receive support from our Learning and Development tutors throughout your journey. There are many areas where you can complete apprenticeships, including Hospitality, Business, Health & Social Care and Education.

The majority of our learners doing a Level 4 Apprenticeship are already working within an organisation, and are looking to upskill or retrain themselves, however, we also work with independent learners, as well as employers who are looking to offer their employees training.

Higher Apprenticeships

Completing Higher Apprenticeships at Level 4 is comparable to studying for a HNC, CertHE, Level 4 NVQ, BTEC or the first year of university. These apprenticeships will equip you with the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours required to meet the standards of your chosen Apprenticeship. You can find out more about each Apprenticeship’s standards on our Courses page.

Higher Apprenticeships are a great option for individuals aged 18 and above who have already completed their A-Levels, an NVQ Level 3, or those progressing from an Advanced Apprenticeship. They also provide a viable alternative to university that enables you to start your career without accumulating student debt, as there are no tuition fees with higher-level apprenticeships.

If you are unsure whether you are eligible for this program, please do not hesitate to contact our team. We are here to offer you all the support and guidance you need.

What do I get paid as a Level 4 Apprentice?

Did you know that Level 4 Apprenticeships allow you to earn money while you learn? The Government provides wage guidelines based on your age and the year of your apprenticeship. For instance, if you’re an apprentice aged 16-18 or over 19 in 2023, you can expect to earn £5.28 per hour during your first year. After you complete your first year, if you’re over 19, you’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rate for your age.

As an apprentice, you’ll get:

  • Paid and be entitled to the National Minimum Wage.
  • Time for training or study as part of your apprenticeship.
  • Holiday pay and other employee rights.

Some employers may be willing to pay you a yearly salary while you are learning.

What will I do during my programme?

  • Working alongside experienced staff.
  • Gaining practical, job-specific skills.
  • Gain important life skills.
  • Earn a wage and get holiday pay.
  • Be allocated time for study related to your role.
